What to Expect at Your First Facial: A Guide for Garland Clients

Every week someone books a facial with us and then quietly admits at the front desk that they have no idea what they signed up for. Totally fair — spa menus are written like riddles. So here's what actually happens, what the five facials on our menu really differ in, and how to pick without overthinking it.

What happens during a facial, step by step

Every facial we do follows the same skeleton: cleanse, exfoliate, extract if needed, massage, mask, moisturize. You lie back in a reclined chair, fully clothed, hair wrapped back. The differences between our facials are in the products used, whether steam is involved, and how long the massage and mask stages last. Nothing hurts. The extraction step can pinch a little if you have congested pores — tell your esthetician if you'd rather skip it, and she will.

Our five facials, translated into plain English

• Chair Facial — $25, 30 min. The express version: cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize. Good before an event or as a first toe in the water.
• Herbal Facial — $35, 45 min. Gentler, plant-based products. The one we suggest for sensitive or easily-red skin.
• Gold Facial — $45, 60 min. Brightening-focused, with a longer massage stage. Popular before weddings and photos.
• Deluxe Facial — $50, 60 min. The full classic facial with steam and extractions. If you want the "real" facial experience, this is it.
• Diamond Facial — $65, 75 min. The longest and most thorough — deeper exfoliation, extended mask, best for dull or textured skin.

How to choose for a first visit

Honestly? Most first-timers should book the Deluxe. It includes every step, so you find out what you like and what you'd skip next time. If you're on a budget or short on time, the Chair Facial gets you 80% of the glow in half the time. And if your skin reacts to everything, start Herbal.

Before you come in

• Skip exfoliating acids and retinol for two days before — your skin should not arrive pre-scrubbed.
• Come with or without makeup, doesn't matter. Removing it is literally step one.
• Mention any medications like Accutane when you book. It changes what we can safely do.

Afterward

Your skin may be slightly pink for an hour or so — normal. Skip makeup for the rest of the day if you can, wear sunscreen, and don't book a facial the day of a big event; two or three days before is the sweet spot so the glow peaks on time.

Facials pair naturally with a brow cleanup while you're here — plenty of clients tack a $10 threading onto the end. Either way, you can book online and see every open slot without calling.
